Day 6
Ola everyone! Today was another great day in Brazil for Baylor Jazz. Today started off early again with a breakfast that was late (our servers keep arriving later and later), but good! We have three choices and it's pretty evenly split between the Selina and the Americano. I haven't seen anyone jump in on the avocado toast selection yet.
After breakfast, we boarded the bus to the Institute and the church to perform our next concert. This one is meant to raise community awareness of the church and of the music school. We had a great set up, basically on the street in front of the church. The Instituto Hatus is on the second floor of the building across the street. We did a quick warm up and it was time to play. It was such a fun concert. People walking down the street stopped to listen. People were dancing with their dogs. Kids and families from the Institute were there throughout the concert. Many people stopped to take videos of the band. Everyone was smiling and having a great time, and the band played GREAT! I am still amazed (but do not tell them this) that they can play this well after not rehearsing since May. They are really figuring it out and learning how to be pros.
Several times during the concert the pastor of the church, and his wife, the director of the Institute, spoke to the crowd. They thanked us but more importantly, they told the crowd and passers by about the music school and the church and how they were raising money (they had a booth set up) to build a new church and Institute with more space so they can help more children to continue their musical learning. This is what we do on these mission trips. We will not stand up and be evangelists or give a sermon, but we can be the pied piper that brings people to the church, or that raises awareness for worthwhile organizations like this one.
Here are some pics from the concert:

Did I mention it was 65 degrees when we started?

A view from the expensive seats!

Chris wailing from the front side. I dig the shades, man!
After the concert, the Paige Fan club jumped into action getting hugs and pics galore.
The line to meet and greet Paige is always super long!
As does Anders.
To be truthful, we all got some new fans this week. These concerts and clinics and interactions have been so much fun. We just hope that we helped the church and the Instituto Hatus music school in some way.
After the concert the church also gave us these brigadeiros. They are so, so good!
Then, of course, it was time for some food at another pay by the weight buffets.
We are eating some incredible food this week, and we are eating well!
Fun fact...Anders can literally sleep anywhere!
Then we had a little downtime at the hotel before we headed off to a Sao Paulo tradition. Watching the sun set in the park.
Check out all of the people that cam to see it with us!

Deep thought while looking at the sunset.
Feel free to have your own deep thoughts looking at the sunset.
Then it was off to....you guessed it.....eat. It was an AMAZING pizza restaurant in a very affluent neighborhood. Fire oven pizza.
As you can see, seriously deep conversations were had at this table tonight.....
(In all seriousness, after Camden's Call of Duty team won as he was watching them, the whole table was so relieved that they didn't get on their phones the rest of the night!) And yes, they did try to hide their phone very quickly when they saw me about to take a pic, but I beat them.
The pizza was so good. Pepperoni with Basil, Margherita, four cheese, pepperoni! Every one was great!
Then the words that they all love to hear from Parker...."this is an entree AND a dessert meal."
Chocolate Fondant (SOOO good. One of the best desserts I have ever had.)
Tiramisu
Fried Ice Cream
I have no idea what this is, but it was good!
Then it was back to the hotel through some CRAZY streets. It's Saturday and there is a big football game (soccer), so the bars and restaurants are spilling into the streets Getting back was a fun adventure! We definitely saw what Sao Paulo nightlife looks like.
Today was a good day. We got to play for people that I am sure have never heard or seen a big band live before and we made people happy and helped a church and a great music education organization. That makes us, in turn, happy.
Tomorrow morning, we are participating in the service and performing at the church, and in the afternoon, we are playing at a community park. It's going to be a lot of fun.
Join us for the church service in the morning from 8-10 Waco Standard Time.
